One Thousand Dollar Talents

For the Kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money.” Matthew 25:14-15

According to the above business plan, how can you receive a talent of $1,000? "A talent in weight," is "a sum of money" in gold or silver equivalent to a "talent." This unusual currency that comes from a man likened to the kingdom of heaven is tied to the “law of use.” Recipients of the talents are to do business with what’s given them till the man comes back. He expects a return of productivity from the diligent use of the talents.

The “law of use” is like a fair scale of balance that measures what is given by how much is produced. It is "a gift or ability." Each servant is distributed different resources in the man’s delivery of goods.

To receive a talent you must believe in Jesus as your savior, than as a member of the man’s household named, “the kingdom of heaven,” you are called his servant and are given a certain number of talents. It is made clear that the talents are given to each according to ability. So it is a fair measure. Meaning no one receives something too big for him to handle.

The man giving talents does not linger but goes straight away. We assume his journey calls more of his servants for talents. This kingdom law of “use” underlies all personal and corporate development. Nothing is worth developing if it does not give a return. So when you are given a talent and multiply it or bury it what should be done? This will be talked about next week in the My Word segment.

If you believe in Jesus and would like to receive talents, His Word says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him” James 1:5. The talent of wisdom weighs heavy in business. God tells his servants to “Call on him and he will answer you and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” Jeremiah 33:3. Talents from the kingdom of heaven when used with wisdom produce obvious results that others see. “Those around you will fear and tremble for all the goodness and prosperity that he provides” Jeremiah 33:9. Call on God to show you great things that you do not know so you can ask Him more about them.

If you do not know Jesus as your savior and would like to receive talents then receive Jesus. “You can confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, ask him to forgive all the wrong things you have thought, said and done that does not please Him, called sin, and you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and does the right thing, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame” Romans 9:11; 1 John 1:9. Be part of the kingdom of heaven!
