God, Hope & Helping Others

I'm new to this website, so this is the only place I see to post a discussion question.   If there is a better way to submit this question, let me know.

I listened to a video with an interview with Rabbi Finkelstein.

From my religious background, I know Jesus said in the book of Revelation that there are
"those who say they are Jews, and are not."

Also, I know  in the Bible it says that God will "bless those that bless Israel".

The whole Cain/Abel thing...it is apparent to me that the person interviewing the Rabbi has some knowledge of this and is saying that the Jews descend from Cain.

If that is true, who was Noah?  Where did the Jews come from?  Where did Abraham come from?  What is the difference?

If that is true, how does the scripture about "bless those that bless Israel fit in"? (also, "curse those that curse Israel")

Plus, Jesus came from, ultimately Abraham through Isaac, Jacob (Israel) down to Jesus.

If you answer these questions, I would appreciate an intelligent answer instead of using curse words or something like that.  I am trying to discern how you can tell what God is saying about Israel as compared to where Jesus talks about Jews who say they are Jews and are not.

I'm looking for answers about the Seth/Cain question, also Abraham/Noah as compared to "who are the Jews".     For that matter, who are the Hebrews and how do you tell the difference?

I realize that often when a question like this is posed people will come up somewhat "like how could you be so stupid as to not know the answer", but I don't know everything I need to know about this, so would appreciate some intelligent answers and knowledge on this, without the "attitude" please.

If anyone has any links or can send me anywhere that discusses this in depth, I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

p.s.  How do I get answers sent to my email?  I don't see a way to check send replies to my email.  Thanks.

This may not be what you're looking for, but I'll give it my best shot.  The word "Hebrew" comes from Eber.  The descendents of Eber were known as "Hebrews", or in some cases it was pronounced "Habiru".  You already know that Israel was the name God gave to Jacob, and Jacob/Israel is often used to describe how the nation of Israel is behaving.  In other words, when God see's Israel doing well, or when God's prophecies speak of His promises, it is to Israel.  When Israel is behaving badly, then the prophets speak to them as Jacob.  When God curses Israel, the curses go to Jacob.  Incidentally, this is also something that should be considered when reading "God blesses those who bless Israel, etc."  When Israel does something wrong, we're not supposed to automatically just blindly accept bad behavior.

Israel had twelve sons, one which was named Judah.  Shortly after Solomon died, his two sons got into it.  The ten northern tribes did their own thing, while Judah Benjamin, and Levi stayed the course in the south.

Now, as far as those Jews who aren't really Jews, I think this may be referring to a passage in the book of Chronicles where the scribes seem to insert themselves into the lineage of David.  It's quite obvious what's going on so it seems kind of ironic that no one seems to care that they did this.  The scribes seem to align themselves with the Pharisees, and in the New Testament they seem to be mentioned together so often that they seem to be almost synonymous.  Given that Jesus seems to deal with them the same way, suggests to me that these may be who these Jews are who really aren't Jews.

On the other hand there is also the idea that there is no Jew or Gentile in the kingdom, which leads me to think that those who make a big deal about the distinction between Jews and Gentiles aren't really true believers.  This goes for those who claim to be Jews as well as those who claim to be Christians in my humble opinion.  I also think this is the case because I don't believe that there is a gospel for Jews and another gospel for Christians.  The good news is for everyone, and God doesn't play favorites; well I should clarify that barring "for the Jew first, then the gentile".

Hope this helps

It is the Ministry of NSearch that all inherit the Kingdom of God

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law....

Now the works of the flesh are evident,

which are adultery fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,

idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies,

outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy,

murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like;

of which I (Paul the Apostle) tell you beforehand,

just as I also told you in time past, that those who

practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering,

kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control,

against such there is no law. Those who are Christ's

have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Let us not become conceited, provoking one another,

envying one another.

Galatians 5:18-26
