If the oil gets into the Gulf Stream, Florida, Georgia, the Carolina's can kiss their tourist industry goodby. The billion dollar boating industry will suffer as well. A captains worse nightmare is running through a patch of surface oil. As all boats realize spray, especially when a little choppy, crude oil can ruin just about everything. From damaging the gelcoat (a brown staining), to an impossible clean up of teak wood decks, cushions, and clear plastic enclosures. Captains and owners alike will flee the area and seek a more suitable environment. In addition, once the oil hits the gulf stream, combined with the summers southeastern prevailing winds, the stench from the oil alone will drive even the heartiest condo owners away from the coastal areas.
