Silicon Island - Israel's MIT puts roots down in NYC
In an attempt to boost its tech cred, New York City held a contest hosted by Mayor Michael Bloomberg to build a new graduate school of applied sciences and technology on Roosevelt Island.
The winners: a collaboration between Cornell and Israel’sTechnion (Israel Institute of Technology) — two premier schools now positioned to catapult NYC into the global forefront of innovation and technology. And of course, there’s also the not-so-insignificant economic boost it will give the city.
The Jacobs Technion-Cornell Innovation Institute (JTCII) offers a 2-year Master’s program that gives students a degree from both universities, as well as faculty that comes from both home institutions, all on a proposed high-tech campus with the ultimate goal of net-zero energy consumption. The institute stands to be a green hub for talent where dreamers and entrepreneurs come together.
